Prompt injection is serious because it targets the model’s instruction-following behavior directly. If a system accepts untrusted text from users, documents, websites, or tools, then hidden or malicious instructions inside that text can distort what the model does next.

The danger grows when the model has access to tools, sensitive data, or actions beyond simple text generation. In those cases, prompt injection stops being just an output-quality issue and becomes a genuine security concern with operational consequences.

The practical response is layered defense. Limit tool permissions, separate trusted from untrusted context, validate outputs, and test adversarial scenarios before launch. The goal is not to make the model perfectly immune. The goal is to reduce how much damage a manipulated prompt can cause.
