That happens when a chatbot is bolted onto an existing workflow without simplifying anything underneath. Instead of removing effort, it creates a new place where users have to interpret, verify, and sometimes recover from the bot’s response.

A chatbot only reduces complexity if it replaces real steps, not if it merely sits in front of them. If users still need to hunt for details, confirm decisions, or switch to human support, the system has added one more layer rather than eliminated one.

The real test is whether the bot makes the workflow shorter and clearer. If it does not, the experience may feel modern but still be harder than the old process.
