Trying to understand blockchain beyond cryptocurrency

Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading about blockchain mostly in the context of cryptocurrencies, but I know it’s much bigger than just that. Things like decentralization, smart contracts, and real-world use cases sound interesting, but I’m still trying to understand how they actually work.
